Just returned from Cardiff. A lovely City. At dusk pied Wagtails come home to roost in the branches above the City Centre.

Perfect (!) Christmas Pudding! ….at least that is what it is called!

It is a Nigel Slater Christmas Pudding I am making this year. It is gonna fill 2 –  1.5 litre pudding basins!

I soaked chopped dried fruit – sultanas, currants, figs, cherries overnight in a bottle of Brandy!

I grated 2 apples and zest and juice of 2 oranges.

1965 Newlyn

At my local junk shop I found these two lamp bases. Firstly I dived on them thinking ‘Bernard Rook’ but they are in fact made by Peter Ellery of Tremaen Pottery.  Think Troika era in Newlyn, Cornwall when Eric Leaper was a party animal! The smoke fired lamp bases were the signature of Tremaen pottery. They are tactile and sculptural with an influence of Barbara Hepworth at the time.

My latest find from the local junk shop are these belt buckles bought for £3. The Owner does House Clearances and  I guess he didn’t know what to do with them.  I snapped them up! Some are plastic, bakelite and metal. All  are Vintage.

I attended the local Scout Hut Auction yesterday. I came away with a few bargains!

Handful of costume jewelry for £2!

Some vintage pin dishes for £3!

There are four African pieces but these two are the reasons for my bid of £2

I was very happy with my purchases!

My San Marino Mariners on sweet water

San Marino is a tiny independent country  surrounded by  Italy.  It is inrernationally famous for two products – its postage stamps and its ceramics. Pottery was being made there for centuries .  In 1955 the government took notice of this industry growing in its midst and to its credit decided to help promote it  by creating an International Exhibition of Modern Ceramics. From June through October of that year the exhibition took place at the Kursaal Congress Centre and met with great international press coverage Basically they gave the big factories of Italy some good competition

It is these Mid Century Modern ceramics that are so beautiful. They always  feature  the same  lady. I picked these up over the years for pence at car boot sales.
